TECHNOLOGY RESOURCES CENTER

The Center is a demonstration site for the application of technology to all levels of education. It provides an introduction to new technology, examination of programs, and demonstration of new products. The Center arranges presentations customized to individual or group needs. The Center has an outstanding collection of CD-ROM and other computer programs with special emphasis on younger children. Software is from leading education producers. The Technology Resources Center does not recommend, evaluate, endorse, or loan products.

For the past 10 years the Center has provided professional educators with a unique opportunity to view technology expressly designed for use in education and training. The Center was one of the first places to demonstrate interactive videodisc, bar code readers, CD-ROM, closed-captioning, compact disc interactive, photo CD, on line services, and the Internet. The Technology Resources Center has been internationally recognized as a source for information on technology and education.

Computers are provided by Compaq, IBM, and Macintosh. Large screen monitors from Mitsubishi and Philips. Electronic mail and data services are supplied by America Online, Prodigy, and Microsoft.

Education administrators, supervisors, and national leaders visit the Center for personalized demonstrations of computers, CD-ROM, and the Internet. While many are aware of the technology, few have had a chance to have hands-on contact with specific products.

Classroom teachers from both public and private schools use the software library to see what is new or to research how different programs teach the same subject. Educators also use the facility to look at various configurations of hardware to make their own decisions on equipment.

Professional educators, students, and software developers from all over the United States and 75 counties have come to the Center. They arrive individually and often as class size groups. Many have unique and specialized problems, and all are concerned with teacher training.

Government agencies come to see specific software and technologies.

The Special Interest Group, Application of CD-ROM to Education, "SigAce," has been instrumental in showing new applications of technology to educators from the metropolitan area. At SigAce meetings, developers and hardware vendors demonstrate their products. These meetings also give schools (both public and private), colleges, professional education associations, producers, and vendors to meet one another.

The Center is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Appointments are requested. The direct street entrance is at Capitol Place, 80 F St. NW.
